Bernard was a rescue dog and is part Dachshund and part Beagle. He was 8 months old when we got him and is now 11 months old. We assigned 12/20/2009 as his DOB as 12/20 is also my daughters DOB. Bernard has allergies to flea and tick treatments and requires Benadryl after each dose. Bernard is gorgeous red and white he has all the markings of a begle and the lenght of a dachshund. Bernard is very quite not much for barking and has not learned to speak as of yet but we are still trying. Bernard is very sweet natured and loves to play with children. Bernard is 42 inches long from nose to tip of tail but he has beagle legs and height. He is very healthy and happy. He eats homemade dog food as we did not want him eating chemicals or preservatives. We use chicken, turkey and lean beef mixed with rice or pasta, with vegetables. His favorite vegie is carrots which he likes sliced and steamed. He takes the slices out of his bowl and chases them all over the floor before eating.

Oh, he is adorable. What a terrific combination. I say go for it.

My baby boy was a shelter puppy and is 17 pounds with a red tick pattern. One of his parents was a toy breed. The shelter, which specializes in Beagles, guesses that a parent was an Elizabethan Beagle and weighed no more than 10 pounds.

Maxx more closely resembles a Doxie than a Beagle, but he has the Beagle markings and coloration. And his fur is very soft, unlike the fur on a Beagle. He has a Beagle tail. He has a surprisingly deep bark for his size and when hearing harmonicas or bad singing will howl quite loudly and piteously. Yes, definitely a hound.

His legs are noticeably longer than a Doxie's but still quite short in relation to his length and crooked in front. He has a prominent collar bone. His head and ears most closely resemble a Doxie (with the exception of a more prominent dome), but his eyes are most like a Beagle's and very expressive. He is active and needs regular attention and exercise.

In temperament, I'm told he is more Doxie than Beagle. He is very bonded to me over everyone else, very sweet, patient, accommodating, respectful. When not with his Jack-Chi companion (a more lively, animated, assertive dog), he can be loud and protective. On his own, he is laid-back and very easy to own and care for. However, he would be so lonely without Sugar. It's a very good thing that he has a friend, and he is very kind and attentive to her, grooming her almost as cats do one another.

This is one terrific fellow. Wow. So glad Maxx is in our lives. One thing to note: Our Maxx is very mommy-focused and not as tolerant of kids as our Jack Chi is. The kids had to learn to inspire him come to them rather than to pursue him. Another thing to note is that Doxies and Beagles are very loud and still loud when bred together. Might not be popular with close neighbors.
