Aggression & Training
We had a Beabull in our home from the time he was only 8 weeks old. He was a year old last month and we had to re-home him due to an unusual aggression toward me. At first, our dog was gentle, cuddled, playful, etc. and never hurt our other 2 dogs. He loved to wrestle and play. We trained him to obey commands but his stubborn streak got worse as he got older. We had not had him neutered yet and he was becoming increasingly aggressive about asserting his dominance. He would put his feet on the counters in the kitchen when we were not looking and chew up anything he could reach. He had toys all over the house. He had a big yard to run in. He was not a bored dog. He was a very smart dog. We taught him to "trade" when he’d take something we did not want him to have. He'd put down the item and get rewarded with a treat. One day, he stole a chicken bone off the table. I tried to do the "trade" with him and he dropped the bone. As soon as he had the treat, he reached up and grabbed my arm in his mouth. I yelled at him to release me and he grabbed the other arm in his jaws. I screamed but he would not release. I ripped my arm from his mouth and he had pierced a vein in my arm. Blood was everywhere. After being on a 10-day in-home quarantine, we were able to find him a home with a man that had an English Bulldog and was fully aware of the biting incident. This man has been working with him for 2 weeks now and says that 3 walks a day seems to wear him out. He has a lot of energy. I would NOT recommend this dog around children, disabled people or weak people. My husband is disabled and hated this dog due to his dominance control issues. He was not easy to train at all. We’ve been dog owners for YEARS and have wonderful success with our other pets. In fact, our little rat terrier used to always hide from our Beabull. Now, our rat terrier is finally happy again.

Aggression is not something to be taken lightly. In December I got my son a Beabull for Christmas. He wanted a dog and so did me and my boyfriend but we live in an upstairs apartment of a two unit house and were careful in the breed we picked. We didn't even know about Beabulls when we were looking into getting her and there wasn't a lot of information online-but we did it anyways. It was the best decision we could have made. Kona is the most loving and playful puppy in the world. She was easy to house train and training her in general has not been difficult. Since there is beagle in her, walking her has been very trying as she is always wanted to sniff anything she passes. In addition, she does have a little bit of seperation anxiety and if she could, would be at our side at all times, including while we sleep! Kona is just learning that she can bark and she is going to be six months old next week. At first we thought she would howl a little more than bark, but we were wrong. The one thing we had to be careful of was the winter. Being a short nose dog-being out in the cold when she was a puppy was really hard on her and she would hyperventilate a little bit. Our vet said that it was normal because of her nasal passages and of course because she was so young. We think that she will remain fairly short but will fill out. She has taken on the bulldog look in the face and in her stance but for sure has the curiosity of a beagle. She is great with my son and with other dogs-she shows submission at first encounter with dogs but holds her own and is ready to play in a minute. A beabull is a great addition to a family or even an individual. She loves to play but will also snuggle right up to you when its time to settle down. She snores something horrible but its the cutest thing!

Our beautifull beabull, Maggie, is 4 months old now and she's been a wonderful addition to our family. She gets along very well with our other small dogs, both female, a one-year-old French Bulldog and an 8-year-old Toy Fox Terrier, and with our three teenage daughters who just love her to pieces. We had no idea what to expect when we took Maggie as a "rehome" from a woman with a toddler son who realized having a puppy was just too much to handle. What a lucky day for us!
Maggie is very happy to share the attention with our Frenchie, Mia, who is still a puppy herself and used to being the "baby" of the family. There's been little or no jealousy issues. Maggie can be food possesive, thinking every treat is for her, but she's learning to take turns. She's quite intelligent and understands "sit" and "down" so far. We plan to take her to obedience class once she is 5 months old. Her markings make her truly unique. She has black "Cleopatra eyeliner" around both eyes, is mostly white with red patches and freckles, especially on her belly, which is really round and she loves to have rubbed! She's super affectionate and we let her behave like a lap dog, even though it looks like she will outgrow being the right size for it. She's full of puppy energy, loves to run around the yard, play fetch, and chew, chew, chew! She does bark when she wants attention, which we are working on. We have no idea how big she'll get. Right now she's 15 pounds and 10 inches tall. She's got short legs and a long body, floppy ears and an itty bitty bulldog tail. I've seen pictures of other beabulls with beagle tails, so I guess this is random genetics. We highly recommend the beabull as a great family pet. They are very loving and friendly, have enough energy to keep up with kids and have enough bulldog in them to relax and be mellow. A wonderful combination!
