Bosco's Blog
Hi Folks, it's me, Bosco! As I promised in my first blog, I wanted to tell you a little about myself. I am about 6 six years old. I do not know exactly how old I am on account that when my owners came to the Humane Society to adopt me, my file stated that I was 8 yrs. old and that was well over a year ago. When they took me to the vet. for the first time, he did not think I could be any older than about 5. I don't know how the rest of the examination went, I was so excited to hear that I must have been much younger I didn't pay attention to anything else the doc said. Supposedly I am a Chow/Shepard mix but just like my age, the details that are given all too often to the great folks over at the Humane Society when dogs and cats are being brought in are sketchy.
I am a very happy dog. I have a great family and they treat me so much better than my last family. I was so nervous the first couple of weeks I moved in, my owners had to carry me outside just so I could "go", and at 80 lbs, that is not an easy task. So, they hired a trainer to see what was wrong with me. She told them that I had been severely abused by my previous owners and that it was going to take a lot of love and time for me to get to the point where I was not running for the closet every time I heard a strange sound which seemed to be all the time.
Well, a year or so later, things are much better. I now have a sister dog, named Roxie. We saw a picture of her on line and we all went to the Humane Society together to see if she and I could get along. We seemed to hit it off right away although I noticed something different about her. She only has 3 legs! But don't tell her that, she does just fine with the 3 and can run circles around me. We also have two cats in the house. I guess I should be thankful as the cats were living in the house long before Roxie and I came along. Sometimes they act as if it is their house, hmmmm. I am convinced that Oscar, the large male cat, thinks he is a dog in a cat's body. He always wants to hang out with me and Roxie and every time we get to go out and play, Oscar has to come with! Basil is one of those cats that does not really like to be around anyone. Not sure what her story is, but I will tell you all this..I wonder who was the first to say "fighting like cats and dogs", 'cause around here, we all pretty much get along just fine.
Well, that is quite enough about me. However; I would like to share my cat and dog quotes of the week with you.
As Samuel Butler once wrote: "The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may-make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too"!
Ellen Perry Berkeley was once quoted as saying: "As every cat owner knows, nobody owns a cat"!
Have a wonderful day with your pets everyone. Bye for now, Bosco
