I have a 3 1/2 year old Lhasapoo that had been diagnosed with bladder stones 2 times. The first time was this past January 2010 and he had to have surgery to remove 7 stones. He was also put on a special diet at that time. And now 7 months later, in August 2010, he had bladder stones again and had to have surgery to remove 10 stones this time.
Both surgeries included a cystotomy (removal of the bladder stones via an incision in the bladder). This past time though he had an additional procedure called a urethrostomy, which is the process of creating a new opening to urinate through. The hopes with this new opening is that any stones that form will be able to be passed through the new opening and not cause a life-threatening blockage.
I am being told that both the Lhasa Apso and the Poodle are prone to bladder stones. Has anyone had a lhasapoo with this problem?
I also do not know of any other person who has a lhasapoo and even my vet's office says that my dog is the only one they treat. I would like to be able to share any info if there are other lhasapoo owners out there.
