I adopted Sophie from the Humane Society of Broward County. Puerto Rico has a terrible overpopulation of stray puppies and dogs that are not neutered or spayed. These dogs roam the streets of Puerto Rico, unloved, uncared for, starving and sick. These dogs are called "Sato" a slang word for street dog. The Humane Society participates in a nationwide network of rescue organizations. Many of these dogs and puppies are taken in by shelters where they get proper medical care and are neutered/spayed. The lucky ones that can be made healthy again and are adoptable become available for adoption at the shelter. That is the story of Sophie. She is healthy, happy, and very well-loved. Everyone wants to know what breed she is and say she is the cutest dog they've ever seen. And she is!
