Aayla's Story & Details
**On a side note: it DOES take Aayla awhile to warm up to new people, if you approach her without letting her approach you at her own
pace, she will get scared. If you allow her to feel you out & ignore her as she does so, she will adjust a lot easier to your presence & become your friend. Most people are scared because of her deep bark but when I tell them to just let her come to them & not look at her or speak to her, they are always amazed at how loving she will start to be; ie, laying her head on their laps, sitting next to them, licking their cheeks, etc.
How did I pick her name?: I am a slight Star Wars nerd & my favorite Jedi is Aayla Secura, thus I decided to name her Aayla. (It's pronounced like "Kayla" or "Layla" if you wouldn't pronounce the "K" or "L".)
Aayla was an unexpected addition to our family. I have had my dachshund since I was 17 years old & never thought I'd bring another dog into the equation, unsure of how my dachshund, Monroe, would handle it. Low and behold, I was out one night with my husband, just trying to find something to do to pass the time. I stopped to look at some puppies (which I will often do sometimes, but will force myself to never let myself bring one home on a whim). With Aayla, it was different. I was halfway out the door when I turned my head & the dog that was laying in front of her moved & she peeked her head up from her sleep and just looked at me with the most unexplainable face. I went back and picked her up and wrestled with myself for a moment not to bring her home...but I fell in love. When I thought back to the puppy days with my doxie, I became slightly worried with the house breaking because it had taken me such a long time to housebreak him. Aayla was the complete opposite. Everything I tried to teach her, she caught onto instantly. She is one of the most intelligent and comical dogs I have ever met. She loves my dachshund & he has become very adapt to her, something he's never really been with many other dogs. They look out for each other & they love to play & wrestle & Aayla seems to know just how gentle to be with him. At times, I think she believes that she is a dachshund. She tries to be a lap dog & she tends to try to copy a lot of the things my dachshund does like laying on the back of the sofa, but over time I think she has come to learn that she is just too big to lay on the back of the sofa, as she weeble wobbles off of it eventually. She has brought so much life back into my dachshund & it's been great seeing her bring the "dog" out in him again because for awhile, he seemed content on being human like. They compliment each other's personalities so well, each bringing something different to everyone's life. My mom has never taken to any dog we've ever had but she fell in love with Aayla and it amazed all of us. She doesn't like dogs on the furniture when we are over, but Aayla can do no wrong, she even tries to sneak Aayla into her bed to spend the night when I'm ready to leave with my dogs. She has been a complete breath of fresh air for all of us. She is a pretty even split (personality wise) between both the Golden Retriever and the Border Collie. I remember the first time I went for a run with her and she ran into my legs mulitple times, almost causing me to land flat on my face. I didn't understand it at the time until I learned that she had been mixed with a Border Collie & had that "herding" instinct. However, after a firm correction, she has never tried to trip or run at my feet since, it had been a two time experience. Like every other experience, she adapts very fast. She is very enjoyable to go on runs and walks with, my 43 lb niece can walk her without any problems of tugging or pulling. She enjoys to run but other than my experience with the first few runs, she prefers to be chased rather than be the chaser? She enjoys swimming, if she sees any form of water, forget it...you can't change her state of mind but that's just her instinct & it's never been a bad thing with her. She is such a lover and a cuddler & a people pleaser. I could go on for hours with stories of all the amazing things she is capable of. She has stolen my heart.
