After months of research I finally narrowed my choices down to the Old English Mastiff and the Cane Corso. As I was doing some net surfing I came across a breeder's page about a designer hybrid called the The Giant Maso Mastiff. I checked it out. Talked to my trainer, my vet, and the breeder. I mulled it over for awhile and decided to find another vet. Then I put down my deposit for an apricot brindle male Maso. I picked him up three months later. He was 7 weeks old, a little shy and unsure of the situation, and all long spindly legs. We spent a week bonding. Then he was off to puppy kindergarten. I believe training has to begin early, especially for large breed dogs. He starts canine camp for basic obedience, socialization, and confidence training next week. I registered Sly with the AKC Canine Partners Program. The program allows mixed breed and hybrid dogs to participate/compete in AKC events open to them. I also spoke to the trainer, who is also an AKC evaluator, about Sly participating in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program and the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program over the next year. We also discussed agility training. A happy mama has a tired puppy.
