My Jackapoo

I have a 10 month old jackapoo, he is a very intelligent little pup but he does shed quite a lot although it does not seem to cause allergies. He is very playful, mischevious little pup but does respond to training. As I did not know a great deal about this breed I had a trainer for him from three months, she used negative training and he did not respond well. I have now engaged another trainer and also a dog behaviourist and he is responding to them very well as they use positive training. They say Jackapoos are not lap dogs, however, I would beg to differ, there is nothing my little boy likes more that to curl up with me on an evening to watch television. He also likes cuddles and to give kisses. He is a very beautiful, loyal little dog.

Eloise the tiny jackapoo

Eloise aka ellie, is a full grown jackapoo who stands at about 11 inches (28cms) and weighs about 13 lb (6 kgs). She is a wonderful dog who is a bit wary of strangers, she will bark at them until she realises they are not a threat and will then proceed to beg for tummy rubs using her charm and puppy-dog eyes. Once she turns her attention to you she will follow you around until she gets multiple tummy rubs.

She is a very yappy dog, being a small dog, who "talks" alot when the children are rough housing, she always wants to join in with the fun. She is also a wonderful guard dog and "door bell" since the door's heavy and we cant hear a person knock unless they pound the door really hard. She is very intelligent and works out problems quickly and learns new tricks just as quick too.

Sometimes when we go for walks in the park, she looks like she's prancing around. She's usually good with other dogs except when they are in her territory.

Eloise loves playing with a balloon by trying to catch it with her mouth, even when she pops it she remains unfazed and wants to play with more balloons.

She also deploys her puppy-dog eyes if she wants something, like treats or what you're eating. If you continue to ignore her she will place her paws on your leg as if to connect with you, to get your attention for treats or food. It usually works.

Her coat is like a poodle's, light and fluffy but sheds profusely like a jack russell. She loves baths and being brushed and groomed. I brush her coat as often as i can to prevent matts as i am a bather/groomer. Its like having a poodle without the hefty purebreed price tag. Eloise also has a poodle's muzzle and dainty legs and paws. but her ears and body are of a jack russell. She is a well loved and very spoilt dog, who most of the time always gets what she want.

I would love to get another jackapoo as they are adorable and full of personality.

My Little Angel

About 4 years ago we bought a Jack-A-Poo puppy from a flea market we were at. He was so adorable I couldn't resist him. I had never heard of a Jack-A-Poo before, but it didn't matter, it was love at first sight.

We had 2 other dogs at home, but he was our baby. He was so special. He was the best dog you could ever ask for. He was more than a dog, he really was like a person. We loved him so much.

He was only 4 years old. Then last Friday (1/2/09), he wasn't feeling too good. When we took him out, he collapsed. We rushed him to the emergency vet. At first they thought he had pancreitis (sp?) but as they did more test they found he had a very rare auto immune disorder that was attacking his red blood cells. They gave him a blood transfusion hoping to build his red blood cells up. But it didn't work. We were faced with the decision to take his life. On Monday we made that hardest decision that anyone has to make.

I am writing this because I am wondering if anyone else has ever had this. Is it something that runs in this breed or is it just 1 in a million that this happened to him.

If anyone has any information, please let me know. I hope someday to get another one, but for now my heart is broken with the loss of my little angel.

Jake

We acquired Jake approx 7 years ago as a 6 wk old puppy. Mum was a farm Jack Russell and dad was an apricot miniature poodle (won many shows).
We already had 2 german shepherds, 6 cats, a rat, and a couple of rabbits.

Jake fitted in from the word go. The shepherds were cautious at first but soon accepted him. He teased and tormented them by day and curled up to sleep with them at night. The cats tolerated him and he soon learned that chasing them was not good idea as it usually ended with a scratched nose.

Grandchildren started to arrive shortly after we got Jake, each baby was taken in his stride and despite the hair and ear pulling there was never a growl or snarl to be heard As the children have got older they love to play with Jake.
Unfortunately, both shepherd within two years of each othe and we acquired another puppy, a cross gsd/border collie. Jake accepted the puppy with no problems and they are now best friends.

He has been very easy to train, is very obedient and is a lot of fun to own. I would certainly have another Jackapoo.
