Lacey's Tooth Update

Vet Visits
This is a follow up to my earlier post on 4/28/2008 at 7:54 PM. Well, I gave Lacey the last one of the new treats we had and now she has a chipped tooth. She chipped her back left molar. So, I think it really was the new chew we gave her that made her loose the tooth. They were 'Hartz Dentist's Best Chew Treats' for small dogs. I DON'T recommend them. We have given her the Hartz rawhides without any problem, but these are obviously too hard for her teeth. I fell so bad. I should have know that that was the cause and thrown the last one away. We took her to the vet and she said it looks like everything will be okay and that it didn't get into the tooth pulp. We have to keep an eye on it and take her in if it looks bad or changes colors which will mean it got infected. I really hope she is okay. She has been through too much in her short little life already to have to add a root canal to the list. Wish her luck!

Lacey's Latest Vet Visit

Vet Visits
Last night we took Lacey into the vet to have her leg checked out because she had been limping on and off over the past week. She would be running around chasing Logan and then limp for a minute and then be up and running at top notch speed again. I checked her foot for any sign of foreign material or injury. I rubbed her leg and hip area to see if there was anything wrong that I could detect, but of course I am not a vet and had no idea what to look for. I had heard about the knee problems that toy dogs were prone to so I thought we had better take her in and have it checked out. Just as I feared she had a Luxating Patella. For those of you who don't know this is a common condition in small dogs where the kneecap pops out of place. There are different grades of Luxating Patellas. Fortunately, the vet said Lacey had a grade 2 in her left back leg which was the one we noticed her limping on and a grade 1 in the back right leg. The vet told us to limit her activity for two weeks and gave us some anti-inflamatory medication to give her daily. It is proving very hard to keep her inactive. All she wants to do is run around and play because she is still in puppy mode. Hopefully, she will be okay and not have to have surgery...
