I decided since I am only working 3 days a week right now I finally have the time to Volunteer at my local shelter. It is something that I have wanted to do for quite a while but with a full-time job, 3 dogs of my own and maintaining this site there was just not as much time as I would have liked. I volunteered at
Safe Harbor Humane Society in Kenosha, WI which is where we adopted our third dog
Lance last October.
I went in for the 1-hour orientation on Saturday and wen in today to walk and visit with some of the dogs. The first dog I walked was a Jack Russell mix. She looked like she may have has some Chihuahua also. She was a little shy and timid around the other barking dogs in the cage but very sweet when I opened the door. She loved the walk but wanted to be close to me the whole time.
The second was a male Min Pin who was also adorable but did not have the loving personality of the first. The third was a hound mix of some kind. She was a typical hound when we walked pulling the whole way with her nose in the lead.
It was a very good experience. It just breaks my heart that people can just drop dogs off there like they are old shoes...
PS: We have also added some new merchandise to our CafePress store to help with Dog Rescue...
Check it out!
